I haven't tried any of the new shoes that mimic running barefoot. Runner's World has a very interesting story in its November edition about this trend, craze, whatever you want to call it.
Above is Nike's Free Run Plus women's shoe -- I've only walked in an earlier version of the Free Run after trying it on at a race running store booth a couple years ago, and boy was that comfy. Below are the Vibram "Five Fingers" that are getting a lot of attention lately. At a Nike demonstration recently, the rep told the audience that these types of shoes are a training tool for some runs -- shorter ones -- designed to strengthen ankles and feet, and that they're not intended to replace traditional running shoes. My Brooks, in which I wear some pretty heavy duty orthotics, are so cushioned and structured that these shoes are opposite of what I run in, LOL. Yet I'm intrigued and may have to check them out post-partum.
Apparently, "Five Fingers" aren't just for running? I saw a woman wearing them on the train the other day, and she was in street clothes. Didn't chat her up, however. She looked a bit grouchy.
