But let's back up. I'm a planner, and I knew a lot of stuff had to be squeezed into Friday and Saturday. Friday am was an 8-mile easy run, followed by a workday, and then getting to Ravinia for a date night on the lawn to hear/see Brian Wilson in concert.
Gratutious rainbow photo from the concert, after it rained on us pre-show:
Figured I'd be lucky to get six hours of sleep, hit the 17 miles on Saturday ahead of a 11 a.m. daycare tour for Lil Sweetpea and then I'd squeeze in a nap thanks to hubby before a 2 p.m. kid's fourth birthday party. Which I still had to buy a gift prior to.
I resembled my colonel dad a bit, managing to stay on schedule Saturday thanks to (nagging) my (poor) awesome husband. We made it to the party with minutes to spare, despite insane Saturday traffic in Chicago's busy Lincoln Park neighborhood.
I was feeling like super mom.
Until the front desk at Pump It Up informs me there is no party for the child's name I mention to them.
Obviously they are mistaken. I am super mom and would not screw something like this up.
Until I look at my phone again. The party is at the end of the month alright. But it's the end of AUGUST.
I never make mistakes like this. I felt so bad, with my 4-year-old M-man and 2-year-old Lil Sweetpea, who are old enough to get excited when Mommy tells them "hey, we're going to a birthday party!"
The kids working at the Pump It Up front desk nodded sympathetically. One said "you'd be surprised how often this happens." Another one "helpfully" said, well, at least you don't have the buy the gift later. Hmm.
I apologized. We made it up to them with frozen yogurt and a few toys.
Fortunately they're not grudgeholders.
But I still can't believe I did that.
And I keep wondering -- what *did* I have scheduled for today that I obviously have forgotten???
